Let Dinosaurs Be Your Philosophical Guide
Why you ask? Because dinosaurs can be philosophers too. Why can't we sort out the evolution and creation debate by taking a a direct note from the source. Ok, maybe not directly. It's still a pretty funny concept!
Beginning Bloggers: Web Hosting 101
Tomorrow is a big day, as some of my close friends have finally decided to start blogs. Each of them have varying ideas about how they want to run their sites and what they want to write about. The biggest concern they have is where can they find web hosting services that are cheap and reliable. They've also expressed their concern about domain purchases, which in some cases, can be quite expensive.
I made a list and outline for them, and I'm sure all of you will find this helpful as well. When I look for companies that offer website hosting, I have a mental picture of the kinds of services I would like included before I make my initial purchase.
I want the domain name provided for free, bandwidth, disk-space, email capabilities, transmission of blogs, spam protection, mobile services, and any extra perks that come with it. I also look for moderation and comment services as well as the option to create a shopping cart if I decide to sell protects, which I did just recently over at the Ancient Digger.
The biggest advice I can give them is to keep it simple and find a company that keeps the process headache free. It's a small price to pay to keep your blogging experience as enjoyable as possible in the beginning.
Mysterious Time Traveler in Charlie Chaplin 1928 Movie The Circus
It's not in the movie -- it's real footage and it features real members of the public in 1928. Or does it, asked Clarke, who spotted a mysteriously dressed stranger walking past the camera talking into what he says can only be a mobile phone. Now the YouTube footage has passed the half-a-million mark, and plenty have tried to explain it. YouTube user "Barnwash" claims Australian police tested the first true two-way radio in 1928 and that maybe the woman was security in disguise. ~Fox News
What do you think? Is it real? If it wasn't a scene from the actual movie, then what makes people think this wasn't added in. What does "real footage" mean anyway? Real footage from where? I'm not convinced!
Why Do People in American Culture Get Married?
From my standpoint, I reside in a somewhat altered situation. I’ve been in a relationship for close to ten years and I’m not married. Why you may ask? Well, for three very important reasons. Marriage is an institution I’ve never supported, it’s what’s socially conditioned, and it forces people to reaffirm their love that may not need affirming.
Marriage is an interesting concept. Depending how you grow up, your experiences, and how you think they will affect others, really determines how you feel about the institution itself.

University of California Student In Fatal Shark Attack
Swimmers and surfers get bit almost everyday in Florida and California, yet they still take their lives in their hands in the name of extreme sports. It's a shame. A student with his entire life ahead of him is now gone because he decided to go bodyboarding.
Witnesses at the scene describe a 14 to 20 foot shark. Just to give you an idea of the size of the shark that attacked Lucas Ransom, this is a picture of a 9 foot bull shark. We tend to see these types of sharks in Florida all the time. The shark was almost double the size of the bull pictured. Terrifying if you think about it.
Matthew Garcia was two feet away from his friend, 19-year-old Lucas Ransom, when the shark attacked with no warning, he said. The whole attack lasted seconds while the pair were bodyboarding about 100 yards from the shore.
"He was just floating in the water. I flipped him over on his back and underhooked his arms. I was pressing on his chest and doing rescue breathing in the water," Garcia said. "He was just kind of lifeless, just dead weight."

This Or That
Have you ever taken one of those surveys or taste tests years ago between Coke and Pepsi? I remember taking it, as well joining in on focus groups to decide whether this or that commercial would sell more products. It's one of those things, as consumers, we do to reaffirm our distinct culture. I've seen several of these so called comparisons on Facebook as well. They can ask you whether you'd rather have a gremlin or a critter living as guest in your home (yes, I know) or would prefer an IPad over a MacBook Air? Most of us find these surveys a great way to waste some time, and for others, a way to find a voice or ask an embarrassing question to millions of people. There's actually a site allowing individuals to do this. Think about a subject or issue close to your heart. What if your idea or opinion is somewhat is limbo. You ask others what they believe or think and provide and debate feedback received by them or given by yourself. Answer some of the most talked about debates of all time:
What do you think came first the chicken or the egg?
What comes out of a unicorn's rear-end?
What's scarier? Palin or a spider?
Yes. All very important question mind you *smile*. Don't you find it fascinating, however, that someone would actually take time out of their busy schedule to come up with such a ridiculous comparison? Is there a reason for this obvious humor? Or is their some truth to these idiotic, and yet, brilliant this or that questions? Have a go yourself and find out now. At least it will add a bit of humor to your day.

Fall Photography For the Tropically Challenged
I miss the changing leaves up north because as you know, gazing at palm trees all year round when it's over 90 degrees is completely overrated.I know it sounds crazy, but the color green is a bit mundane all year around. For those of you that get to experience the changing of the seasons, I am completely envious, for the rest of us, we only have photography to sooth our longing for something colorful.

The Colorful And Creative Artworks of the Frieze Art Fair 2010
"There is some very interesting work this year," he says, telling me I'll have to wait to find out what his gallery has bought (the Onset Contemporary Art Fund, a charitable trust, supplies funds for Tate's acquisitions at Frieze). This year, I discover later, £120,000 was spent on several works, including a roll of Communist-era Czechoslovakian lavatory paper with inscriptions by the late Julius Koller. ~Wall Street Journal
UFO Over Manhattan, NYC
It's a bird! It's a plane. No, it's just some pretty shaky footage of the so called UFO spotted over Manhattan, NYC this morning. Oddly enough, the image caught in a photo looks nothing like the objects in this video. So what gives? Another prank on the city or do you guys actually think these orbs are real?
Coachelletta
Sam O'Hare on Vimeo.
There's one word that epitomizes the film genius of Sam Ohare. EPIC! Coachelletta is a time lapse video featuring the Coachelletta Music Festival, from sun up to sun down.Ohare was contacted by Goldenvoice, the producers of the festival, after they saw The Sandpit.
Yeah, they got in touch after they'd seen The Sandpit on Vimeo. They really liked it and said they were looking for somebody to do a film about Coachella and they thought that the style of film (tilt shift) would work really well. I had a week to prep and off I went.

Interpreting the Peyote Road By Michael Kiyaani
What is the purpose of Peyote?
Peyote presents a creed or path of inspiration to be followed. “The Peyote Road”, a transformation, form of respect, and trip for those seeking personal dignity and who respect nature and other people. These individuals are led by the "road men", often observing their transcendental state while they confront their own demons. These humble adversaries speak with nature-the air, sky, sunshine, rain, and trees-all God’s creations. In a sense, they have direct contact with God through nature, whereas white people speak to God, not directly, but usually through an intermediary, who then translate their message while they pray themselves. Are there physiological and psychological effects of Peyote?
Although the medical conditions associated with taking too much peyote are not spoken about by Michael Kiyaani, he does describe the effects it had on him when he came back from war. His mind wasn’t in the right place. He had no clarity. By taking the peyote, he first experienced his entire world coming to an end. Even so, he continued to take it. This was the vision he was supposed to see through his journey. By morning, everything was beautiful. So in a sense, peyote presented his entire life to him, all aspects of the bad, and made him see the bigger picture in the morning. “There was a lot of sagebrush out there, and everything was too beautiful”. Peyote was never pleasant to look at, but after the entire process, “I looked for that peyote, and now I saw it was real pure, real white”.Patients taking Peyote, as described by Kiyanni, will talk to their mind. They will see things, mostly bad, but they seem to have a sense of knowing. In some cases they will be bothered by witchcraft or the lightning in the sky. Their blood will fill with the Peyote, however the drug, like nature, can be spoken to. Just as we are made mostly of, and in water, we feel most at home. We feel level with nature.
Therefore, psychologically, there’s no way of knowing the effects conclusively, because every person will be confronted with a different obstacle while using it. Physiologically, there can be vomiting, dizziness, blood pressure may be elevated, but this is completely normal. To the non-Native American medical community, this is a drug requiring control; however that’s in lieu of the fact non-Native Americans shouldn’t be taking it in the first place.
Kiyanni says is perfectly,
“This natural herb peyote is used by Native Americans with more sincerity. Indian people are more serious in their mind, in their heart, in the way they worship. Just let the Indians have it, let the Indians use it the way they want it, just natural. Our identity is there.”

There Is Nothing Like Going To A College Football Game
The Author of this post is Kory Dotson
There is nothing like going to a college football game, in the middle of fall. The cool air, hooded sweatshirts with team logos, jerseys, and outrageous fans, are unforgettable. There is just something about the pride people have in their University, and in their football programs. It is an American pastime, that I think that all people should experience. I never miss a University of Michigan home game, and I have been a season ticket holder for about 14 years. Nothing could ever replace the feeling of sitting in the Big House, with thousands of passionate fans just like me, all cheering on my Wolverines. Unfortunately though, not every game on the schedule is a home game, and the team must travel on the road.
Thank god I have www.directstartv.com/directv_equipment/directv_dvr/directv_hd_dvr.html, so I never have to miss a game. If you are looking for a great time, and want to experience traditional college football, head to Ann Arbor to catch a University of Michigan home game at the Big House, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Azande Poison Oracle: Testing Witches
The poison oracle is the preferred way for the Azande of Central Africa to determine whether a particular mishap is due to the action of a witch. The operator uses certain mechanisms to discover hidden truths. In the case of the poison oracle, a poisonous substance known as benge is administered to a chicken by the operator. Following the administration of the poison, a series of questions is posed by the questioner to determine the results.
Example: A question such as "If X is bewitching Y, oracle, stick." The question may be repeated in inverted form to check the accuracy of the oracle: "If X is bewitching Y, oracle, do not stick.
The chicken is either unaffected by the poison or, more frequently, has violent spasms. Sometimes the chicken dies and sometimes it survives. The manner in which the chicken reacts to the poison is interpreted as indicating the presence or absence of witchcraft.
