You will, however, receive ongoing mentoring through your first year of teaching at a high needs facility. In that time, you will have the opportunity for continuing your education through the university you attended.

It takes a very special person to teach in a high needs institution, however your value as a teacher and the knowledge you will gain by pursuing this type of position, will empower you for your own future goals.

Fall In Pennyslyvania Amish Country

8/30/2010 12:54:00 PM · Comments

Upon reading a book about the Hutterites and Amish is a class this semester, I started to think about the last time I had an interaction with this culture. I am originally from Pennsylvania, born in Carlisle in 1977. I grew up not to far from the Amish farms, where my mom and dad would bring me to watch them make bakery goods and make clothing and blankets.

These pictures by ronlace100 gave me such fond memories of Harvest time in Pennsylvania. The colors of the leaves as they change every season. The horse drawn plows, used for hundreds of years. Still being used on Amish farms. I think I  appreciate it so much more, now that I'm older, and I like to think wiser. We certainly tend to take things for granted when we see them everyday, so I thank this wonderful photographer for giving me a special moment today.

GPS Tracking: The Key To Staying On The Right Track and The Right Road

8/30/2010 12:32:00 PM · Comments

Just a few weeks ago we moved into our new digs, only 20 minutes from the school. It was a long and eventful move, and as my fiance looked at the gps tracking to make sure we were on the right road, one of my lamps fell out of the back. Ok, so it may not have been humorous for the people tailing our truck.

As I looker further behind on the highway, out moving truck was nowhere in site. I had asked them prior to getting on the road if they had gps tracking systems in their truck. The replied "No, we do not". Honestly, I was bit concerned considering we were paying by the hour. They rest assured me, if something did happen, I can call the main, which uses a  vehicle tracking system if something should happen.

When they did arrive, they moved the contents of the truck into our home in less than 45 minutes. I couldn't believe it. No dollies. No straps. Just strapping young men.

To make a long story short, my fiance and I have only being using the GPS system a short while, but I can honestly tell you I would be lost without it. Furthermore, our insurance is much cheaper having the navigation system along with our fuel costs being much lower. We have a large truck, so paying over $100.00 a week in gas after we get lost for an hour is not an option.

With Christmas coming up I urge you, if you know someone who frequently gets lost, buy them a GPS for the holidays. It's the best investment I ever made.

Smaller Is Better in Macro World

Ever imagine what life is like for the tiny creatures in nature?

Macro Kingdom explores this tiny world for the first time through a MP-E 65mm camera. An experiment by the creator clemento to play with his newly purchased technology, looking into the world on a much smaller scale.

Critics have said:

This is beautiful... kind of reminiscent of some of the scientific films from the early 1900s! For example, Percy Smith's 'The Acrobatic Fly' from 1910~

Absolutely brilliant. I suspect lightning for these macroshots must have been challenging, but the lighting setup was fabulous! Keep up the good work.~

Electronic Cigarettes: Why You Should Try Them

8/28/2010 11:33:00 AM · Comments

I was recently out at a restaurant and a man behind me started complaining that a person at the next table was smoking a cigarette. There was no smell and I certainly never noticed anything. Low and behold, it was one of those Green Smoke cigarettes. I had heard about them, but I'd never seen one up close. Mind you this is a family restaurant and people tend to talk across the room at each other, so I asked the gentleman if I could take a look.

The electric cigarette has LED on one end of the cigarette which simulates a glow and a heating element which vaporizes the cartridge inside containing a nicotine solution. While many smokers will agree, they'll never switch, many have recognized the benefits of smokeless cigarettes. Green cigarettes have no tar or nicotine, no odor, they're much cheaper than the $5.99 a pack cigarettes, they won't stain your teeth, and you can use them everywhere.

While these cigarettes are not an alternative for smokers looking to quite, in the long run that's just what they might do. They certainly give smokers a great reason to stop buying the real thing, considering the savings in price. They're also environmentally friendly, so everyone wins. Even your family.

These e-cigarettes are available online. Starter kits including rechargeable battery, charger and 5 nicotine cartridges will run you around $60 - $150.

  • A package of 5 cartridges will run you around $10 - $15.
  • 1 cartridge is about the equivalent of 1 - 1.5 packs of cigarettes.
That's only around $2 - $3 per pack of cigarettes.

If you're a smoker, I urge you to check out electronic cigarettes for yourself.

Spider Scissors: Bizarre Artform Made From Confiscated Airport Security Scissors

8/27/2010 05:22:00 PM · Comments

As if scissors weren't scary enough. You know the ones. The old ones. The ones that make that creepy sound when they open and close. It's like watching that scene in Hostel when one of the victims gets their toe cut off. Yikes!

Well, combine scissors and spiders and what do you get? A garden variety massacre of spiders? No, of course not. Some really creepy art by Christopher Locke. Locke is the brain child behind the Heartless Machine, a site showcasing his works using some pretty interesting materials.

Believe it or not, these spider scissors were created from 15 pairs of confiscated scissors at airport security. On Christopher's website he explains that hundreds of scissors are confiscated everyday at airports, which makes for a pretty elusive craft with free supplies on demand.

Each pair of spider scissors is uniquely crafted just for you, so the spiders you see in the pictures, may not be available.

Christopher Locke says,
I graduated from the George Washington University with a degree in fine arts, specializing in sculpture. I'm very passionate about creating, and I feel like sculpture is my purpose. I have a few things expressly noted as collaborations with Howard Connelly Designs, but everything else on this website is my own work, of my own design, and made on my own time for my own satisfaction. Nothing here has been backed by a corporate sponsor. It's all one-of-a-kind, and comes straight from my soul.

Help Stop The Slaughter of Wolves

8/27/2010 04:45:00 PM · Comments

It may not funny or bizarre, but it certainly turned my stomach. Ever since I was a child, the wolf has been one of the most fascinating and serene animals I've ever observed. They are brilliant to watch and even more fascinating to listen to. Unfortunately, many people feel different about them.

Hundreds of wolves have been innocently slaughtered in Alaska, close to a thousand in fact, by aerial murderers. On March 14, 2009 Alaska wildlife officials used helicopters and spotter planes to carry out Governor Sarah Palin's escalating wolf-killing program. The operation claimed the lives of 84 wolves -- and the killing only stopped when officials couldn't find any more wolves in the area.

Just another reason for me to hate Sarah Palin. Drill baby drill, as long she's making money. SICK!

To help support this cause and donate to help save the wolves, please read this article.

The End Of the World On Night Shift

8/26/2010 08:37:00 AM · Comments

Waiting for the End of the World from Lee Deaville

I remember working one of those dreaded night shifts at a catalog company, talking to customers overseas, while my eyes drifted in and out, trying to order the right products. It's lonely. The night can play tricks on you, all while you're trying to stock the shelves. Bake the bread. The bread that seems to come alive as your imagination make inanimate objects speak. Yes, it's strange, but it also happens quite frequently.

The video, The End of the World", is one such bizarre night, told from the perspective of a third shift shelf stocker at a supermarket. Say that five times fast. He's  deprived of human contact, and with only an overactive imagination to keep him company, Petr sets about his monotonous night shift at his local supermarket.

Does Keyword Density Still Work For Blogs?

I’ve been blogging for close to three years, and in my experience, I’ve always paid too much attention to my keyword density in my blogger blogs. Hitting the expected 3% to 5% keyword density in an article for blogger simply means you’ve stuffed the article enough to think it will provide value to Google. This is the wrong approach.

The Key to Finding the Perfect Arizona Lodging for Your Vacation or Holiday

8/18/2010 03:49:00 PM · Comments

After going through our budget this year, my fiance and I decided, instead of staying home for the holidays, we would travel out west. We have a few options in mind, but I mentioned that I was looking at some vacation rentals in arizona which were completely furnished and near the lovely Sonoran Desert.

The culture, nature, and atmosphere in Arizona is unlike many destinations in the world, in that the residents drink in the life, arts, landscape, and history. Personally, I appreciate the fact that the arizona vacation experts will find a home, villa, or townhome that fits your exact specifications. What this means simply, is that when you start your search for arizona lodging and you have a particular itenerary planned, such as checking out the more than 1000 species of native plants that live in the Sonoran Desert,  watching the sunset over the Phoenix skyline, or even playing 18 holes at some of the famous golf courses in Arizona, they will be able to match your needs with the perfect holiday home.

If you prefer a more action filled vacation, you can easily find accommodations for your entire family, some of which have bedrooms for every family member and a private pool. Your vacation home will only be a short drive or walk to Arizona's famous nightlife, award winning restaurants and bars, and close to Arizona's world re-nowned spas.

Searching for an Arizona vacation home is easy. Just choose your destination, let's say you pick Paradise Valley. You will then be provided a list of accommodations, along with the prices for a one week stay. You can view the details of the property before making any type of decision. If the property suits your needs, reserve it. You can then pick the dates you'd like to stay and receive a quote. Just remember that a departure cleaning fee, management fee, accidental insurance, and taxes, will apply to the quote. Plan your budget accordingly.

When Deadlines Get the Better of a Novelist

8/13/2010 03:20:00 PM · Comments

Did you ever stay up too late, writing away, trying to finish up a novel, article, business proposal, or research paper? I'm sure not one of you could say no to this question, as deadlines seem to run our lives in some capacity or another. Your eyes slowly get tired and your words on the page start to sound like they've been written by a five year old.

Well, some writers take it to the extreme. Consider this fellow in the video. He is under extreme pressure to finish his novel and then paranoia steps in. Consider this film a twist between Secret Window starring Johhny Depp and Psycho-any version. Yes, it's just that dark and bizarre.

The Deadline was created by Andres Salaff in his second year at California Institute of the Arts.

Please be advised, there is a bit of profanity.

Mysterious Lake People

8/13/2010 12:42:00 PM · Comments

In the winter of 1853-1854, Swiss archaeologist Ferdinand Keller examined a ghostly cluster of wood posts protruding through the top of the Lake of Zurich. A drought had lowered the water level, exposing the bizarre beams.

Were these posts the supports for lake houses centuries ago? Keller’s assessment fascinated the public, stating the homes belonged to a long lost society, or lake dwellers, of early Europeans.

The idea of prehistoric people living above the water on stilts was just as captivating to scholars as tree people. Once investigations began on western lakes in the region, eyebrows began to raise.

Monster Halibut Get's Hooked

Levasseur, who caught the monster Halibut over the weekend, has shattered the derby record by 21 pounds, holds a commanding lead in the popular competition and has stuffed his freezer with a year's supply of delectable fillets. Send me some, oh please!

But it's the memory of the battle -- not the prize money or the fillets -- that will remain with him the longest.

The Pacific halibut struck a large iron fishing lure with a herring pinned to its hooks at a depth of 170 feet, far into the Gulf of Alaska. The fish ran every which way but refused to come up.

Boost Mobile's ReBoost Program With No Long Term Contracts

8/11/2010 04:41:00 PM · Comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boost Mobile. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve come to the point where it’s going to be absolutely necessary to now have a cell phone once again. You would recall my last episode, where my flip phone ended up in the ocean during a hurricane. It was amusing for a moment, yes, but afterwards complete distress. I had no idea how much has changed, the different types of phones, and the numerous amounts of contracts and programs available I recently stumbled upon Boost Mobile's Re-Boost program.

If you don't know already, Boost Mobile offers wireless services for no long term contracts. Their Re-Boost program is available at approximately 100,000 locations throughout the U.S. There are several high end phone brands to choose from through Boost Mobile including the Blackberry , which I personally was considering. Best of all, once you start using your service and you have a payment due, you can head online or by phone and set up automatic payments, one time payments, and register your debit/credit card for future payments. If you don't have the time to do it yourself, have a family member make a payment for you. Talk about convenience!

I'm social by nature, and when school starts, I'm going to need a phone to keep up with my blogs, Twitter, and Facebook updates while on campus. Boost Mobile makes this process simple, especially when you choose one of their socially savvy phones. With a Blackberry, you can get the Blackberry Monthly Unlimited Plan, which is $60.00 for a month and you receive unlimited nationwide talk, text, web, and email. The i1 Boost Mobile phone, which actually doubles as a nationwide boost walkie-talkie, is available for $50.00 a month and includes nationwide talk, text, web, unlimited 411, IM, and email.

Activation

The activation process is super easy and can be done in just a few steps. You can either enter the SIM Card ID and IMEI or enter the ESN or MEID number.

Replenishment

You can replenish at anytime, just make a payment in person at the several locations around you, pay online, or by phone.

Shop For Extras

At anytime, if you'd like to add new features to your phone, you can search online and find the many accessories offered including ring-tone downloads, games, navigation programs, travel chargers, and more.

I can't think of better company that fits my needs. So how about you? Are you ready to switch to Boost Mobile?

The Bizarre Baigong Pipes Artifacts

8/11/2010 10:48:00 AM · Comments

The Baigong Pipes are a series of pipe-like features found on and near Mount Baigong, southwest of the city of Delingha, in the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Their origin is disputed. Although they may be natural, the pipes are cited by various web sites as an example of an out-of-place artifact. The Baigong Pipes are reported to be associated with a pyramid about 160 to 200 feet high built on Mount Baigong.

The pipes were first discovered by a group of scientists from the United States who were seeking dinosaur fossils. They reported the Baigong pipes to local authorities in Delingha. However, the pipes were ignored until 2002. The local government now promotes the pipe-like features as a tourist attraction, with road signs and tourist guides.

German Cat Turns on Vacuum, Virtually Scares Itself To Death

8/10/2010 05:41:00 PM · Comments

One cat in Germany, although I'm sure this has happened in many homes, turned the vacuum on by itself. It practically scared itself to death and had to be attended to by emergency services.

Police in the Bavarian city of Bayreuth said a neighbor heard the cat's cries -- not to mention a vacuum left running for hours -- and feared there'd been a terrible accident.

The fire service sped to the scene Monday evening, but found only the cat and the machine.

A police statement Tuesday said the emergency call wasn't entirely in vain, though, because "at least the cat could be calmed down."

Linen's N' Things, More Than Just Linens, So Much More

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of LinensNThings. All opinions are 100% mine.

The one thing I love about moving, and yes there are some things that are enjoyable, is the fact that I can start with an empty pallet. I decided this time to start from scratch, pulling in some design ideas inspired by the Tuscan country side. Natural colors and rustic finishes are key to create the look I'm going for.

The bathroom design will be along the same lines, decorated with a new shower curtain from Linens 'N Things, the Bacova Guild Bergan Shower Curtain fits the Tuscan theme perfectly I must say.  I found the curtain online, and wouldn't you know, LNT.com is running a huge promotion for their online shoppers right now. So what did I do? I added more to my cart. A Claude Monet Irises Framed Art Print and Tuscan Rustic Wall Mirror will look splendid next to my new rustic, dark wood dining table.

When you use the coupon code LNTFREE, you'll get FREE SHIPPING up until September 15, 2010. I can't think of a better incentive to shop online. I'm always the first to jump at a bargain for shipping, which is always a large chunk of your total. So when I find a deal like this, I had to share it with all of you, and I encourage all of you to do the same with your friends.

If you think Linens N'Things is just linens, than you would be wrong. They have a wide selection of home decor, bedding, electronics, specialty gifts, outdoor items, tableware, and kitchen supplies, to name a few.

Make sure to stop at their site before 9/15/2010 to get your free shipping.

One recycling artistic team has begun transforming all those losing lottery tickets into something with real value -- the stuff a gambler may have purchased had they won the lottery, or better yet, saved the money. Non Traditional and Unique Churches

Guest Post by DeeBee

For hundreds of years, churches had one, stereotypical look, that was recognised by all. In the last fifty years or so, church architecture has become as high tech and modernistic as it can get. Vast edifices of glass, steel and concrete have been built all over the world, in a bid to be recognised in the same way as any modern, urban, masterpiece.

Many of these new churches and surprisingly a few older ones too, look nothing like we have come to expect of a church, and these are the ones I have picked for this article.

Consider Exotic and Charming Villas For the Holidays

8/05/2010 03:23:00 PM · Comments

Is it too early to start planning for the holidays? I was thinking, I remember my music teacher mentioning his charming villa holidays  spent in Italy every year for Christmas. He would typically book a year ahead sometimes to reserve what he considered to be the most perfect abode for his family. I recently asked him, curious I suppose, about how he goes about this process.

He mentioned a site that he works with directly, listing hundreds of chalets, cottages, holiday villas, and apartments. The entire process is completely private between you and the owner. Plus, you get the low down from the villa owner about what to do in the area and the best places for a romantic meal with your sweetie, if you so choose. Their property may even have a private pool, and let's not forget, all of the extra space and privacy you'll receive as opposed to staying at a hotel.

Just for fun, I started to look into villas in Cyprus, and my mouth just started to water. I was absolutely drawn to the Old Monastery in Lapta, Kyreni, Cyprus, what with all its historical architecture inspired by Roman and Turkish designs. One can't overlook the lush gardens and the fact the property is two km away. A small price to pay to be in paradise I assure you.

I never realized how reasonable many of these villas and chalets were priced, so that was more than surprising to me. Kelly and I were planning on spending Christmas this year somewhere out of the ordinary and I think this may be the way to go.

Don't Miss Your Chance to See Kissimmee Florida

8/04/2010 05:53:00 PM · Comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Kissimmee Tourism. All opinions are 100% mine.

Several years ago I had the pleasure of living in the Kissimmee, Florida, a stone’s throw away from the best theme parks in the World. Every weekend, my fiancĂ© and I would frequent the Walt Disney World parks, letting us act out our childhood ambitions, even catching a moment while sitting on Mickey Mouse's lap. You're never too young to still do that-*smile*.

Even though we’ve moved over an hour away from the Kissimmee area, we still find the time to go back, and why not? There’s no shortage of activities in the area including:

• Airboat rides
• Zip lining
• Water Parks
• Animal Adventure Parks
• Walt Disney World
• Antique Malls
• Designer Outlets with every store on earth
• Dinner Shows
• Fishing
• Golfing at some of the most prestigious courses in the US
• Dancing at The Old Town Night Clubs
• Four Star restaurants as far as the eye can see
• Horseback Riding
• Hiking on Nature Trails

Each year, my sister and her husband stay at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. Her husband comes here for business, but she comes to play, along with my 7 year old niece.

Typically, we spend an entire day at Walt Disney World with my sister and my niece, riding Space Mountain and the Rock and Roller Coaster. We’ll grab a quick lunch at the hotel and head back out to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to take a few shots of the animals. It’s always a long day, but we try to grab a slushy in the parks and keep the action and adventure packed day going until it’s dinner time.

My sister and I love Angel's Lobster Feast, Azteca's Mexican Restaurant, and BJ’s Steakhouse, so we usually hit those restaurants at least once on theme park day.

Their bad enough on land, so why would I want them in my cocktail?  Imagine you order a sweet and sensual liquor and when it gets to the table, there's a spider or scorpion starring at you through the glass. Yikes!

Snake liquors from South East Asia are considered cures for a variety of ailments, including impotence, back and muscle pain and hair loss . These drinks usually contain highly poisonous snakes, such as cobras.

Historic Mansion For 12 Million May Sell After Clinton Wedding

8/01/2010 02:33:00 PM · Comments

The Historical Astor Courts Mansion, sitting on the market since last year, has become much more appealing since the big wedding during the weekend. Astor Mansion occupies over 50-acres on the Hudson River and served as the staging point for Clinton's wedding to Marc Mezvinsky over the weekend.

The Clinton Wedding was a godsend for owner Kathy Hammer and her husband, who now believe the mansion will fly off the market due to the media coverage and exposure from it.

Astor Courts has gone through 9 million dollars of renovation of the past three years, however due to the slumping market, Hammer lowered the price just recently. Real Estate brokers believe the home will fetch at least $10 million, possibly from a wedding guest.

If you don't know your history, Astor Courts Mansion was originally commissioned by John Jacob Astor IV in 1902. Astor, a founder of The Waldorf-Astoria hotel, died on the Titanic.

Sporting pavilion with guest bedrooms. It reportedly housed the first indoor American residential swimming pool, an indoor tennis court with designed by R. Guastavino and Company, an outdoor grass tennis court (currently just a lawn area), and two squash courts (where the present-day library is located). In addition, in the lower level there was a bowling alley and shooting range. ~AstorCourts.com

Dante's Inferno in Under Two Minutes

Have you ever had to study the epic poem Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri?  If you have then you will know it is long - very long (that's why they call it epic).  Well, now there is no need, at least when it comes to the first of its three parts Inferno (which is the Italian for Hell incidentally).  Thanks to Declan Moran, founder of the arts group The Brothers Grim and Grimy you will no longer have to plough through it all.  If you are a university undergraduate and have been told you must experience for yourself those pesky nine circles of suffering as well as understand the medieval allergory that's going on, then this is all you will ever need.

Well, possibly not, but it's a lot of literary fun anyway.
