Why Do People in American Culture Get Married?

From my standpoint, I reside in a somewhat altered situation. I’ve been in a relationship for close to ten years and I’m not married. Why you may ask? Well, for three very important reasons. Marriage is an institution I’ve never supported, it’s what’s socially conditioned, and it forces people to reaffirm their love that may not need affirming.

Marriage is an interesting concept. Depending how you grow up, your experiences, and how you think they will affect others, really determines how you feel about the institution itself.
