Urban Legends: Facts You May Not Know About the Stories You’ve Heard
Wiki defines them as "An urban myth or urban tale in a form of modern folklore consisting of stories thought to be factual by those circulating them. The term is often used to mean something akin to an "apocryphal story." Like all folklore, urban legends are not necessarily false, but they are often distorted, exaggerated, or sensationalized over time."
Going to the tanning bed many times in a day will cook your organs
-False-There is absolutely no proof or published evidence that suggests that this is true. It is scientifically impossible to have your organs cooked from tanning. Tanning beds use ultraviolet rays that can cause severe sunburn, however if they were able to cook your organs, they would use radiation.Pop rocks and Soda mixed together can cause an explosion in your stomach.
-False-Although evidence has proven that pop rocks and soda mixed together does cause a sort of expansion in your abdominal, it will not blow it up. You may experience an overwhelming amount of gas, but other than that you’re safe.
Dying in your sleep due to dreams of crashing
-False-Have you ever had a dream where you are falling or even crashing on an airplane ? If you die in your sleep due to these events, most likely is was due to some other underlying cause such as a massive heart attack, old age, or even stress.
People who died laughing

-True-Alex Mitchell from Norfolk, England kicked the bucket while he was watching his favorite television show. He laughed for 30 straight minutes then keeled over. It was said he died from massive heart failure due to the overwhelming exertion of laughing.
Getting struck by lightening twice
-True-The odds of getting struck by lightning are like 1 in a billion. What about the odds of the same person getting struck twice? In a case that Ripley’s investigated recently, a woman with M.S. named Mary Lancer was accustomed to living her life in a wheel chair. One day, when it was storming, lighting hit the house and traveled up the metal rails that she had in her bathroom. Not realizing anything was amiss, she grabbed onto the bar in an attempt to relieve herself and she was shocked instantly. Miraculously she lived. She was able to get up and start walking. Unfortunately, it didn’t last. She was back in a wheel chair within months. This didn’t stop the lightning from reaching her again. Months later, it happened again when she was outside of her house trying to take shelter before another storm. She was too late and she was struck again in her wheelchair. Once again, she was able to walk.
What’s fascinating about this story is that people with MS have extreme spinal issues that can be severely aggravated if given an electrical shock. So why was Mary able to walk? Divine Intervention maybe?
Every person in the country swallows a certain amount of spiders when sleeping
-Neither true nor false-Nobody really knows how many insects we swallow during a pleasant night sleep. No such case is on formal record anywhere in scientific or medical literature. I have heard about spiders hiding in the inner ear and ones that crawl up the nose.
Saying candy man three times into the mirror

-Neither true nor false-No one knows because everyone is to afraid to do it. I wouldn’t do it, would you?
Swimming in a lake of bacteria and something swims up your internal parts

-True-There is actually only one documented case in history and it happened in a third world country where a fish that had certain types of suction on its mouth swam up inside the man’s penis and suctioned on the inside of it. This caused enormous amounts of pain and led to death.
Flesh eating bacteria
-True-There is a known case in Kentucky by the name of Mark Tatum. His wife had noticed he was getting very ill and complaining about constant headaches. He was often confused and losing functioning of his body. His wife took him to the ER and within hours he had lost his eyesight. After testing Mark, they found that he was infected with a sinus bacterium called Mucor “bread mold”. The surgeons immediately took him into surgery and removed his nose and eyes to prevent further infection. The Devils hour at 3:15 am: True

Gundam! Mecha Monument Towers Over Tokyo
Who doesn't like the look of a transformer first thing in the morning. How about seeing one that towers over Tokyo?
RJ Evans asks does art mirror life or is it the other way around? The good people of Tokyo may not be blamed if they confuse the two, because towering over their city at the moment, it looks as if anime has become animated - in the real world. So, if you want to be protected against all sorts of evil doers then you might want to consider a move to Tokyo. Read more about the Mecha Monument Towering Over Tokyo
Cosmetic Surgery Done Right at Mya Cosmetic
I recently heard about Mya Cosmetic Surgery from a close childhood friend that moved to the UK several years ago. He explained to me that he had found a company that specialized in Male Plastic Surgery, and he was going to have a tummy tuck.
I was very surprised considering he was always in such great shape growing up; however, he told me he had gained a substantial amount of weight from the stress and poor eating habits with some overweight buddies from work. He said he had lost most of the weight, but his stomach was in bad shape and normal weight training wasn’t helping to tone it up.
I told him I was
concerned for his health and wanted to make sure he was making the right decision. He assured me that Mya Cosmetic Surgery was the best in the area for tummy tucks. They provided free consultations to all of their clients, along with a special meeting with the surgeon before the surgery, this was also free. They insisted on an overnight stay so they could monitor the progress of their clients.
I was pleasantly surprised. In my neck of the woods, this is quite rare to have such wonderful and personal experience before ever entering into an agreement for surgery. They also offer a 24 hour helpline for questions, concerns, or emergencies. You really don’t see this very often.
He actually sent me before and after pictures and I was impressed to say the least. To be quite honest, I was looking into some surgery myself, but normal concerns and the fact that I just can’t find a surgeon I like nearby has always been an issue. However, being that he had such a wonderful experience with his surgery at Mya, I would definitely consider having a consultation with them.
My opinions on tummy tuck procedures have completely changed. I believe that when you come to a point that exercise and dieting is not correcting the issue at hand, it’s imperative to have the surgery. Not only that, if you have loose skin or fat hanging from that area, it puts huge pressure on your back which is a part of the body that always needs such close attention .
Personally, after I lose the rest of my weight, I will be having a breast lift and Mya Plastic Surgery is the company that will perform it.
Daytona State College Anatomy I and II
I just wanted to make a quick update for all of my Daytona State readers. If you are planning to return back to school this fall and Anatomy I or II is on y0ur schedule, let me give you a few quick hints to get through the class flawlessly.
Of course, I do know that depending on the professor you have, there are different ways to study to maintain or achieve an A all through the class. Most of the professors use power-points and don't care for the textbook, although the lab manual is awesome.
As for Lab practicals, Dr. Lovell is in charge of those so I would suggest going to open labs, if they're available of course. Also, utilize the disk you receive with the lab manual. The disk has anatomical pictures, models, and slides of everything you need to know. I used this disk for both sections and I got high A's on all of my practicals.
- Print out the power-points and bring them to class everyday. You don't need the book unless you're really just reading it for fun. There are some diagrams, but I didn't crack my book open for either section and I got A's on the tests.
- Don't memorize your notes, understand them. What I mean is, treat the power-points like a story. Make sure you understand the first slide and then work your way through the others. It's a working system.
- Start studying the power-points the day you receive them. I mean it! If you wait until a few days ahead to study for the test, well it's your own fault.
- Use this website to study http://www.myaandp.com
- Go to SI (Supplemental Instruction). The first day you go to class, the SI instructor will introduce themselves and give you a survey. They will ask for your schedule so the sessions can be worked out for everyone's benefit.
- If you don't want to use SI, which is up to you, there are tutors in the Academic Support Center that can help. Or, if you're lucky enough to find me in the lab writing or maintaining my blogs, you can ask me a question. Just ask for the Math Guru Kelly, he'll know where to find me.
Travel Greece: Greek island of Kefalonia
Travel to Kefalonia
Over the years, Kefalonia has flourished as a tourist destination; however their expectations were completely unreserved and wholehearted.
Kefalonia is attractive to many tourists traveling to Greece because of its welcoming and caring nature. As large as the island is, there is still no feeling of overcrowding or congestion.
The Scenery of Kefalonia
Kefalinia’s highest mountain is Mount Aenos, with an elevation of 1628m (almost the same elevation as Denver, Colorado in North America); to the west-northwest are the Paliki mountains, where Lixouri is sited, with other mountains taking in Gerania and Agia Dynati. There are resorts on the mountain, however there is a range connecting traffic from southwestern to the eastern part of the island is one of the few roads going into the mountain range. Also, there are several caves to the North to be explored.
Best Place to Stay in Kefalonia
Most tourists stay in or around Lassi, a serene resort a few kilometres from Argostoli and in the villages Skala and Katelios in the Municipality of Elios-Pronni. Their numbers have increased since the best-seller, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, was made a film (2001) shot on the island itself. Many people that choose to travel to Greece visit Kefalonia. Many tourists come from Italy mostly because of its proximity.Boating in Kefalonia
There are five harbours and ports in the region: four main harbors on the island, Same or Sami, and a major port with links to Patras and Ithaca. Poros, in the south, has ferry routes to Kyllini; Argostoli, in the west, is the largest port, for local boats and ferries to Zante and regularly to Lixouri; Fiscardo, in the north, has links to Lefkas and Ithaca.Beaches in Kefalonia

What Your Body Language is Saying About You

Liane Schmidt explains the act of body language and whether you can recognize the signs when someone's interested in you. How you say something (tone/inflection), where your eyes are looking, and what your body is communicating all make up the other 80% of communication.
You see him/her across the room, a slight right of the brow, a quick glance away and glance back with eye connection and you're certain that they're interested. But, how do you know it without any words having been said? There are certain nonverbal cues that signal interest. For example, when two people lean in toward each other and begin to mirror each others movements it shows a clear indication of mutual interest. Read More
The Benenfits and Innovative Ideas of Distance Learning
As a college student, a full time blogger, and a writer, I know how important it is to have the time and schedule to succeed in my endeavors.
It's not always easy to make it to campus everyday, while maintaining my articles, blogs, and journals. That's why I looked into distance learning, or rather remote classroom instruction(RCI) from k alliance.
K Alliance is revolutionizing the online classroom experience, and I should know, I spent half my time in classrooms and the other half with online courses.
Like many other students, finding the time to attend classes on campus can be difficult when you have a hectic schedule. This is where distance learning comes in. RCI combines conventional face-to-face instructor-led training with the most up-to-date in conferencing technology, allowing for live training to be accessible from multiple locations at the same time.
Students may choose to use their own computers at their home or they can access their classes at the K Alliance's training centers. The experience is interactive, which is a wonderful option for students who learn from visual stimulation and live lectures.
Personally, I found the experience to be very helpful. I was required, in the beginning of my degree, to complete some computer courses; however, my schedule was jammed pack and I couldn't make any of the on site classes fit in to my schedule. This option was perfect!
If you are looking to go back to school, and you'd like to experience all of the wonderful and innovative options available, distance learning is something you should really look in to.
Whether you’re preparing for a career in web development or just want to brush up your skills, distance learning courses will help you become an expert in your field.

Five Fish with Amazing Mouths
Jo Oliver takes us into the deep waters and waterways with these fascinating, frightening, and anomalous creatures.
At first glance, not many would be afraid of the Candiru, a tiny translucent parasitic freshwater catfish just six inches or less. But, these parasites have been documented to swim into the human urethra of males as the urethra expands during urination. Sensory barbs surround the head and backward pointing spines line the gill covers. The Candiru samples the Amazon River water for expelled urea and ammonia from the gills of other aquatic life. Once the prey is located, the Candiru uses the spines to lodge itself into the gills of the prey with lightening speed. The Candiru then begins to gnaw into the nearest blood vessel..Read More
Extra Terrestrials Have Invaded Roswell Where Capitalizing on Conspiracy is a Way of Life
I will admit, believing that we are not alone in this life is an interesting thought. The only evidence I have ever seen has been in movies, pictures posted in newspapers and online, and National Enquirer magazines stating the Alien impregnated my sister.
However, the most notorious and well known city for Extra Terrestrial sightings is in Roswell, New Mexico.
In 1947, Roswell became a city of immense speculation after a supposd Alien spaceship crashed and the remains were covered up by the government.
The remains of the landing, along with the bodies, were originally shipped to Roswell Base. They eventually ended up at Wright Patt Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. I am originally from Ohio and lived just 15 minutes south of the base.
I remember hearing stories from friends and their parents who worked at the base. There were certain people that had seen the remains, and so the landing remained a truth to me while I was growing up. As I got older and wiser, I started to doubt the stories. It wasn't until I saw a documentary on one of the former Wright Patt officers that had witnessed the remains coming into Dayton for the first time, that started to question everything I had every known about life on other planets.
This was on a reputable channel on television, however there is only some truth to every story. Stories get twisted and confused along the way. So why do you ask is Roswell one of the mysterious sites to visit in the US? Well, it helps that the local businesses play up to the tourists, making the town a virtual alien playground.

The International UFO Museum and Research Center located in Roswell was created in an old movie theater. There are hundreds of displays and artifacts that were found at the crash site and in other locations.

In wouldn't be appropriate if corporate giants were left out of the mix. Big business is starting to follow the trend and benefit from the mass speculations in Roswell. Big surprise!

Oh yes, Aliens do love Wal-Mart. They truly appreciate the fact that a target was drawn on the side of the building so they can not only shop for discount plastic toys, but they can blow it up when their done. Of course, this adds to the speculation that aliens are intermittently evil.

Their always watching us! At least until the painted eyes wash off the light posts.

Although the happenings in Roswell still remain a question of truth, the city continues to capitalize on the ghost stories and speculation of that day.
Video Production and Graphic Media Take On a Whole New Meaning
Do you ever wonder who is behind some of the most inventive and innovative commercials, corporate videos, and graphic filled media presentations?
I think over the past year, after blogging through the internet, I have started to appreciate media and graphic innovation more so than I ever did before.
Recently, through a friend that’s an SEO genius, I was introduced to some Corporate Video that was produced by Richter Studios in Chicago.
I was floored to say the least. The combination of graphics, music, and animated technology put the product being marketed right in the spotlight. The Richter Studios team presented the video in way that was both satisfying for the client, as well as showcasing their abilities to produce an award winning web experience.
The key to remember with Richter Studios is that they take into the account the wants and needs of the client, as well as giving them as straightforward approach to a successful presentation. At the end of the day, it’s about confidence and a true collaborative partnership, which always translates into brilliance.
“This approach worked for us in the beginning and it will work for us in the months and years ahead in our pursuit of becoming the best multimedia firm we can be."
With the valued credentials of a superior production firm, Richter Studios was able to branch out into feature film with "Discovering Deerpath", which opened with rave reviews in 2008 at the Glitzy Lake Forest premiere.
Richter studios is pioneering video production, as well as maintaining a superior reputation amongst their peers.
If you are a business owner, or you seek the assistance of an award winning production team, this company is the best choice hands down.
The Past is Alive in Time Capsules
Most of us want to be remembered, appreciated, and looked up to. We want a part of our past to be left behind for others to find and to ponder. The existence of time capsules has allowed us to do this.
A lock of hair, a medal of honor, a poem, a key to a city, a pair of shoes, a photograph. These are the many things that happen to find their way into a capsule or cache containing the remnants of histories past. In most cases, these artifacts are buried during a celebratory event for a city or state and are meant to be opened several years down the road.
However, there are those that are unintentional and wind up being discovered thousands of years later after they were placed in the ground. These unintentional caches are of cultural significance found in standard archaeological digs “as well as those from volcanic eruptions such as Pompeii and Vesuvius.”
According to my readings, the Epic of Gilgamesh begins with directions on how to acquire “a box of copper inside a foundation stone in the great walls of Uruk - in the box is Gilgamesh's tale, written on a lapistablet.” Read More

Thoughts.com: Learning More From Experience and Sharing
Color me impressed with Thoughts.com. I stumbled upon this site today and signed up for an account. Of course, this was after all my friends in writing class told me about it last semester.
We were looking for some community forums that we could meet in ever week and discuss certain subjects we were working on, as well as trade writing tips since everyone has room for improvement.
After navigating Thoughts.com, I realized that it is so much more than just a forum for posting thoughts and ideas. It single handedly combines an entire page of your favorite links, blogs, posts, video, news editorials, podcasts, surveys, photo's, and so much more.
It quite simple actually! Thoughts.com gives you the necessary widgets to control how you interact with everyone in the community. You decide how it's displayed. It's your own color palate so have some fun.
You can even jump head first into a political discussion, but please remember that others have opinions besides you and me. Respect others on this site and start listening to what they have to say. You might learn something!
I urge you to check out this site, especially if you are still on the lookout for a social networking community that combines all of your favorites all in one neatly packed area. More importantly, if you're new to blogging, this is a great place to start experimenting without the confusing format issues.
I look forward to my weekly coffee breaks in the forum where my classmates and I discuss all types of subjects from travel to history. I love it here!
Spectacular Radio Telescopes Around the World
RJ Evans takes us on a tour of some of the most phenomenal and interesting radio astronomy using telescopes around the globe. They survey the sky and feed us with spatial data-is this life out there?

Radio telescopes can be found the world over. They are used in radio astronomy, the science of studying, at radio frequencies, celestial objects such as galaxies and stars as well as more difficult to understand phenomena such as Masers and Pulsars. They also collect and track data from space probes and satellites that we have shot up in to the atmosphere and space. Here are some of the more significant and - in terms of design - beautiful radio telescopes in the world. Read More about Spectacular Radio Telescopes Around the World

The Fastest Internet Speed in the United States
I spend over 8 hours a day online writing, blogging, and doing other work, and my slow internet speed can really be frustrating. Surprisingly, I have DSL from a reputable cable company, but the problem is I still don't see a difference and I paid extra for the highest speed.
Recently, I got an email from my stepbrother telling me about Charter’s Ultra60 Mbps service which is the fastest Internet speed in the St. Louis market and one of the fastest in the U.S. He has been living in Missouri for several years now with his band, and they use the internet for podcasts, updating their myspace page, and of course their hard core gaming tendencies. He told me that Phatband speed completely eliminates the lag time during gaming, which I knew was also very important to my fiance who is addicted to Xbox 360.
I can't wait until Charter’s Ultra60 Mbps service comes to Florida, since I'm always the first to try the latest in highspeed technology.
If you'd like more information check out the Ultra60 Information Page as well as Charter’s Twitter Feed which is storming the internet with a vengeance.
Synchronicity and the Law of Attraction
John Kreiter explains the connection with the laws of attraction and synchronicity. The ideal that percolates into a "want" kind of relation, and how we satisfy the want.
Many people have heard of Synchronicity but few understand what it actually means and how it relates to the law of attraction. Synchronicity is basically the principle by which we know the phenomenon of time. If different actions align within one frame of reference, they are said to synchronize. One way to think of this is to contemplate the idea that all the gears in a clock must align perfectly in order for us to be able to measure the passage of time.
Synchronicity is much more than this if it is seen from a metaphysical level. Jung was a great explorer of the power of synchronicity and described it as, “temporally coincident occurrences of acausal events." He came closest to explaining the relevance of synchronous events as they relate to the human Read More

Growing Older Can Sometimes Be Frustrating
Recently my fiance's parents came into town for a summer vacation. His mom, whose 67 years old, drove all the way here from Indiana. However, his dad suffered from a stroke several years ago so wasn't able to assist with the driving.
When they arrived, I noticed that his dad was acting kind of strange. His mom mentioned that she thought he may have suffered a mini stroke on the way down from the stress of not being at home.
He shoveled his feet around the house and could barely make his way down the hallway.
Well, being the person I am, I borrowed an electric scooter from my friend that is taking care of her grandma. She didn't us it anymore and I thought it would help him get around so much easier.
He was having so much fun with it during the entire week. He even ditched us in Walmart for a complete hour to shop around by himself. He thought it was hilarious and I knew he needed to feel more independent.
When they got home, my fiances mom called me and said she had purchased a scooter for her husband. She said he was getting around much easier and he was able to go places he was unable to go before.
I was so glad she found a way for him to feel comfortable in his own home. My fiances parents are the kind of people that are grateful for the simplest of things, and considering they thought what I did was a great deed, I was happy for them.
Mohandas Gandhi: The Hero of India

Bursilym from Quazen takes us on an amazing journey into the life of Mohandas Gandhi , who was perhaps one of the most inspirational leaders of our time. He gave hope to people when it looked as though there wasn't any. He cared for a country that is rich with cultural heritage-full of life, beauty, and love.
Mohandas Gandhi was born in Porbander, Western India on 2 October 1869. His father Karamchand Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the small Porbander state. Mohandas’s mother, Putlibai, was Karamchand’s fourth wife, as the other three wives had died while giving birth. Mohandas grew up with his mother and father in Porbander.
But, in May 1883, the thirteen year old Mohandas got married to a fourteen year old girl named Kasturbai Makhanji. This marriage was arranged as a child marriage, according to the custom of the region. In 1885, when Gandhi was only 15 years old, this couple had their first child. But the child only survived a few days. Mohandas and Kasturbai had four more children: Harilal, Manilal, Ramdas and Devdas. Read More

The Perfect Pair of Eyeglasses for the Perfect Price
Last year, I started experiencing some really horrible headaches. I knew that it was hereditary considering my mom and sisters all have problems with migraines. However, it got to the point that my eyes were starting to get shaky. I made the choice to go to an optometrist, and he made the shocking discovery that I needed eyeglasses.
Now when I say shocking, it was more so shocking to me considering I was the only one left in my family that wasn't wearing glasses. I looked around and found a suitable pair for working on the computer and for school. I could not believe how incredibly expensive they were, and knowing myself, I was notorious for losing glasses so I knew this was going to cost me a fortune. The price tag reached a whopping $200.00.
Now, I am still using the same glasses and they are completely scratched up, but I really can't afford to buy another pair. I called my girlfriend that wears glasses as well and she told me about Zenni Optical.
She has a young daughter that wears prescription glasses and she was losing them all the time at school. She told me she was spending close to $100.00 a pair on her glasses and she couldn't afford it anymore. She always wanted those fashionable kinds that were way to overpriced, but but she had to settle for what my girlfriend could afford. This sounded familiar!
She told me that she found eyeglasses on Zenni Optical for $8.00 a pair and her daughter loved them. Let me tell you, I was a bit skeptical. I was thinking there was no way that I could get a great quality pair of eyeglasses online.
I took a chance and ordered some trendy fashion frames. The ordering process was pretty easy actually. I had to have my prescription information, the lenses I wanted, the PD
-Pupillary Distance, and some other pertinent information.
The order took about 10 days, but it was well worth it. I was thrilled with my purchase, and know I don't have to spend $100.00 a pair on eyeglasses anymore.
The Bizarre and Twisted Evolution of HH Holmes Castle of Horrors
By the turn of the century, the last frontier was over and America was moving from a rural to an urban society. America was replaced by uncaring cities and industry, where transients walked the streets looking for any kind of work.

This society, a place where residents knew nothing about one another, killers were going undetected.
This was the case of H.H. Holmes Castle of Horror. Holmes appeared to be anything but the devil with his dashing goods looks and gentleman's attire. He was also a shrewd business man, a con artist, and the most organized of all serial killers known throughout history.
Like many troubled youth, being tormented by other children was a way of life. The bullies surrounding him once took him to the doctors office and fondled him with a skeleton; however, the situation was gratifying and exhilarating to Holmes. He continued through childhood experimenting on kittens, dogs, cats, and rats, maximizing the suffering by using his own hands and instruments of torture. Read More about HH Holmes

About Me
After years of working and owning restaurants, I decided to make a change. This change was not exactly welcomed with open arms considering the state of the economy was a huge factor for my decision to leave the restaurant business, before it got any worse. I was heartbroken and lost, but I found salvation when I went back to school.
I decided to go back to school 2 years ago and work tirelessly towards a PhD in Medieval European Archaeology. It's a long road and it's been bumpy, but ever since I was a child there were only two things I ever wanted to do, and that was cook and dig in the dirt. I've already accomplished one of my dreams, so I figured life was to short to live the same day twice.
I love to learn about new things and I want to learn from you as well.
That's why I'm here. You are my audience, my students of life, a chance to share history and to make it happen.
