Anatomy at Daytona State College

4/29/2009 06:20:00 AM · 2 comments

I know it may not be exciting to any of you, but I had to tell someone. This will be the last anatomy test I ever take, at least when it comes to humans and not dinosaurs.

I learned alot about myself when I took this course at Daytona State. Of course, my professor Dr. Lovell was determined to make me love and appreciate the Physiology of the human body, and I think after a year of test anxiety I think I actually did enjoy it.

Alot of this had to do with Dr. Lovell at Daytona State College. I think when it comes to Anatomy professors at Daytona State, students have some mixed opinions . Although, I was personally thrilled that I was able to take Dr. Lovell's class for two semesters at Daytona State.

Dr. Lovell will push you beyond your limits, however his purpose is to shape your mind and keep you interested and on your toes. Anatomy is not for the weak, it's where the weak get weeded out.

If you are looking into Medical school and you want a taste of what it's going to be like, I would suggest taking Dr. Lovell at Daytona State College. No one ever said it was going to be easy in the medical field, so if you want to learn, take this man.

A Mystery of the Mystic Lamb: The Nazi Plot

4/20/2009 05:33:00 AM · Comments

The Ghent Altarpiece, also known as the Mystic Lamb, was completed in 1432 by Flemish Primitive Jan Van Eyck. The painting is surrounded by mysteries concerning, possibly, the Holy Blood(line) of Christ... This also is the reason why the panel of the Just Judges got stolen, the thiefs got killed and the Nazi's were very interested in the mystic masterpiece...

The Ghent Altarpiece, also known as the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, completed in 1432 by the Van Eyck Brothers (Hubert & Jan), is a large and complex polyptych, originally made for the Joost Vyd Chapel in Saint Bavo Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium. In the eighties, for security reasons, it was removed to another chapel in the cathedral. The Mystic Lamb Continued

A Day of Wacky Facts and Offbeat Humor

After a long and stressful week, I decided that I needed a break from the normal and a doze of crazy. So I pillaged the far corners of the Triond site Purple Slinky to see what the latest offbeat and nutty news was.

Sometimes it’s better to exaggerate your qualities a little bit when trying to find a mate. My favorite is the “face only a mother would love…great for dimly-lit romantic meals”. Hysterical! These ads were attached to a newspaper article about how the personal ads in the UK are much more honest than those in the US/Canada. I guess it’s taboo to lie in ads there? Maybe some of my more traveled readers could comment. by Paula Mitchell Bentley

Where to Find the Best Dance Shoes

4/13/2009 07:49:00 PM · Comments

Just recently, I was remembering how fun it was to go salsa dancing with my friends. Dancing for me was a way to let down my guard and it was a chance for me to display my trendy footwear when I was dancing under the spotlights. However, when I noticed that I couldn’t find my favorite pair of shoes that I purchased from Zappos after I moved this week, I had to go on the search to find the perfect pair of shoes to keep me dancing all night long.

I found a black pair of Capezio Julia Latin 2.5 heals that was absolutely perfect for the occasion. Not only did they fit perfectly, but I got so many compliments on them I went back to Zappos to get a second pair.

A professional dancer knows how important the correct dance shoe is for success on the dance floor during a casual night on the town or a competition. One wrong move can send you sailing in the wrong direction.

So whether you love slow dancing with that special someone, modern dance and jazz, or lightening fast Latin and ballet, Zappo’s has got the avid dancer covered.

The Secrets of Dead Man's Cove

Standing on the mountain high above the placid waters of Dead Man’s Cove, Billy Two Feathers slowly scanned the far shore. His weather beaten face as aged as the ancient granite walls that surrounded the village below, was void of any emotion when he turned to my mother and spoke his words to her.

I remember well one such occasion and because of the events that took place, Billy Two Feathers and I had a huge falling out. The lack of communications between the two of us caused both of us to have a parting of the ways. My mule hardheadedness kicked in and I decided that there was no way I would listen to the elders or my friend and mentor, Billy Two Feathers ever again. Read More

Perceval and the Grail of Bruges: By Chrétien De Troyes

4/09/2009 02:06:00 PM · Comments

Chrétien de Troyes composed his famous epic poem Perceval, le Conte du Graal (Perceval, the Story of the Grail) between 1181 and 1191 for his patron Philip of Alsace, Count of Flanders. He wrote only 9,000 lines; when he died, he left us with an unfinished masterpiece and a handful of historical mysteries.

The Story of the Grail was the earliest account of the Quest for the Holy Grail, telling us about Perceval who was raised by his mother in a Welsh forest. When the boy encounters some knights, he realizes he wants to be one. He travels to the court of King Arthur and in his knight's armour, he sets out for adventure. Read More

Scientific Explanations for Paranormal Phenomena

4/02/2009 07:03:00 AM · 1 comments

Anthropologically speaking, the concept of souls lingering on this plane after the body dies is widespread in almost every culture. These may be benign or malignant, the latter often seen as starving or jealous of the living.

Poltergeists (“noisy spirits”) are said to make noise, move objects and appear as apparitions. These apparitions generally resemble humans, but are transparent and sometimes able to move through walls/objects. Ghosts may also represent the souls of people who have died in a sudden or tragic way and are unable to move onto the next life because of unresolved issues or a desire Continued Explanations for Paranormal Phenomena

Social Acceptance: Defining and Explaining Fetishes

4/01/2009 06:58:00 AM · Comments

As our society gradually becomes more accepting of different types of people, we should also learn to accept people who have fetishes. I’m referring to people that pose no threat to society, but are classified as outcasts due to their actions being deemed as weird or abnormal.

There are many definitions for the word “fetish.” Put simply, it can be described as “liking something that people would normally consider weird.” You see, in today’s society, there’s a general basis for what’s considered normal and what isn’t. For example, if you’re 18 years old and you don’t have a job, the general perception by the public is that you’re lazy. This may not be the case. For all they know, you’ve sent in your resume to 20 companies and are still awaiting responses from Follow the link to read more about Defining and Explaining Fetishes
