The Danger of Cow Emissions to our Planet
In an effort of understand why our planet is constantly being polluted by poisonous emissions of gases, I went on the hunt to see what factors were making, or rather creating the most damage.
Did you know that the rapid growing herds of cattle is the greatest threat to the climate, forests, and wildlife.?Cows emissions have produced dead zones in the oceans, introduced alien species into the environment, and have poisoned rivers and drinking water and coral reefs.
According to Geoffrey Lean, Environmental Editor, livestock are responsible for 18% of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more that cars, planes, and all other forms of transport put together.
So what will happen?
If drastic changes are not made, the damage done will more than double in close to 40 years, as demand for meat increases.
What is being done about Cow Emissions?
Scientists in Wales have forewent a three year study that shows that feed containing garlic could cut down the amount of gas by up to 50%.
They are also testing to see if the garlic gave the animals bad breath and if it would change the taste of the milk.
My concern with this is that, I'm aware that cows are sensitive to alternative diets, and when they stumble into a field of foreign grass or onions the milk they produce has a significantly different flavor.
Could we get used to this change? People are set in their ways, although tastes vary greatly all around the world. As one researcher said, "this might be good for the French market".
What can we do?
Most people would suggest that we stop eating meat, therefore the demand for it directly affects the amount of deforestation and emissions of gases. Yes, I should think this would make an enormous impact.
What are your thoughts?

Hi, Dr. Lauren!
Love this article... I am a former meat eater turned vegetarian. Good documentary (that is very hard to watch) about the effects that meat-eating and animal cruelty have on our planet is called "Earthlings." This documentary absolutely changed my life and solidified my change to vegetarianism.
Hi Mary
Thanks for the comments. I will check out that video. It seems everyday that I am looking towards the future and what impact I can have.
Lauren,
Your article is fascinating and informative as always. I learned something new today. Great documentary.
