I Took a Day Off

8/14/2009 07:02:00 AM ·

Yes I, the interminably obsessed internet user went to the beach. It was only for 5 minutes since a huge storm was rolling in, but that still counts as taking a day off, right?

I have seen several of your replies about content and I will be adding more of those areas. I want to make sure I am giving you everything you want to read. I know sometimes people tend to talk to much about themselves and I try to stay away fom that, but really, my life to some doesn't seem real. I guess because I've lived out my goals at a pretty early age.

I wanted to give you some incite into why I am the way that I am, so I'm going to answer a few questions my readers have been wanting to know.

What happened with your restaurants?

Wow, this is tough. To make a really long story short, my fiance and I took on a partner that had previously owned a pizzeria. A pizzeria we put out of business because out product was better. She was great at marketing to people she wanted money from, but as for our clientele we built up, she ran them away along with all of our employees with her sour attitude.

She ditched the restaurant, stole all the money, and bolted the doors shut. At the time, I was running the larger restaurant with my fiance, so after I got a strange call from my landlord about the restaurant not operating, I went over. I couldn't get into the building and my name was on the lease. We had to pry the doors open and when I went in, everything was gone, except for a deli case that had rotten food in it.

I was told by the landlord that I had to clean it out and I asked them if I could break my lease. They were more than willing to work with us since we had refurbished and re-floored the building.

The 2nd Restaurant

As for the second. You know, that restaurant was not what I wanted. It was in the middle of nowhere and the clientele was less than ideal. They expected everything to be fried and they wanted quantity not quality.

The biggest issue with this this location was that when the economy went bust, everyone in that area lost their jobs. So, it was inevitable that the restaurant wouldn't make it.

I decided to sell it back to the original owner. We had changed the recipes and many of our old clientele were driving an hour to eat there, but it wasn't enough. It was the best thing to do for myself and my fiance.

Why Archaeology?

Ever since I was little I have been digging in the dirt with the boys. I played all the dirty sports and I just likes the action.

It also helps when your Dad went to school to be a history teacher and all you ever watch growing up are documentaries and old movies, as opposed to a purple dinosaur.

I always wanted to be like Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider. Yes, it far fetched, but a girl can dream. I like the mystery about it, and I like the fact that so many people centuries ago went without so much, and yet they thrived.

Favorite Food

Manicotti is by far my favorite to eat, but my favorite to make. Mmmm, that would have to be Paraguayan food.

It's strange I know. I usually will go to the fresh produce section and go crazy. Like last night. I made a tomato Coconut soup.

I took 3 cans of crushed tomato, half an acorn squash cubed, 1 banana, 2 tbsps sauteed garlic, 1/2 cup warm milk, 1/2 cup coconut milk, 1/2 cup sugar, dash of garlic salt, 2 tbsp oregano, 1 tbsp basil. All the contents are boiled until the squash is nice and tender.

Sound strange? It tastes awesome if you appreciate ethnic foods.

How do you have the time to Blog?

I really don't actually. I am going to classes full time and I try to keep up with everything, although sometimes I fail miserably. Last semester I was able to keep writing and blogging while taking practicals and I still made the presidents list.

I like the pressure of guidelines. That probably comes from the restaurants I think.

Why do you Blog?

Great relationships, great people, sharing experiences. I love learning from all of you.

What do you do in your spare time?

This is what I do. I love nature and I love my animals. I have 2 cats, one husky, and one mutt from the Humane society that looks like a mini German Shepherd.

I go to the library a lot with my fiance. My fiance is getting his PhD in math and will be teaching next year at the college I attend. He got me through all of my math last semester with flying colors.

I love to cook and experiment with new foods. Give me an empty kitchen any-day. It's like being at the spa, only there's food there that actually tastes good. lol

I also write for several online writing sites. Most of the articles are about history, archaeology, and offbeat.

So that's me. Do any of you have any questions for me? Let me have it?
